Sunburst Equestrian Newsletter - May 2010
Newsletter May 2010
May began with the SA Eventing Championships, held local to us at Kirkaldy Park, Echunga - which had been recently renovated with 2 new arenas - one sand and the other a spectacular grass arena which was awesome to ride on!
I just had Sun Showers running in the 1* and my 4yo Sun Hill Surprise in the Introductory class. I was also appreciative of being able to school Dancer in the competition arenas during the lunch break in an attempt to settle him in the atmosphere as he had been becoming more tense in the dressage at recent events. Sun Showers placed 3rd, but my 4 yo recorded his first win, much to the delight of his Part Owner/ photographer friend, Marilyn Ottoy.
We then left for the Sydney weekend of World Cups with the Eventing World Cup being an important selection trial for WEG for Sun Dancer & Shine, while the Jumping World Cup was a great chance for my jump mare, Sun Set, to have a final hit-out before heading over to Europe.
In what was to be quite a traumatic weekend, my choice between which discipline - Jumping or Eventing - to campaign for in the lead-up to WEG became clear when my dressage results were well below where they needed to be! I was quite upset with my results & frustrated that my current progress in dressage has been so minimal.
This led me to decide to focus on my Jumping and to this end, I withdrew Sun Dancer from the CIC-W Event and started him in the World Cup Jumping qualifier instead.
Sun Shine completed the CIC-W Event, with successful jumping phases but was not competitive, from her dressage score of 58, to come a mid-field 13th.
Koyuna Sun Dancer then jumped a great 1st round in the World Cup Jumping qualifier for just 4 faults, before Sun Set, who was a little wild in her 1st round, also had 4 faults. Unfortunately, Dancer just missed the cut to jump in the 2nd round with the slowest 4 fault round to finish 9th while Sun Set jumped a cracker of a fast jump-off to finish 2nd. She pulled up well and was all set to fly to Europe!
